Will our .enc file be compared and graded or is it just our .dec file that
will be looked at to see if the original file is encrypted/decrypted
correctly?

Yes. All of the methods specified in the class description will be graded.

For our enc file, does a newline character count as "white space"?

No, try to get it exactly like the example files. It makes grading easier.
